patrick's cv no housemanship. he decided not practice clinical medicine after graduating and do research only.so housemanship = waste of time. under saf rules he must be a MO so housemanship is a must. so his dad got him to serve as medical defence scientist as nsf using soil disease as an excuse.even if research was needed and patrick was the top man for it, he should be made to convert to MO then do research.medical defence scientist is not an offical vocation in saf.blatant kelong!!

@shinjan91 patrick tan defer for medical studies yet never made to serve as MO. not even during reservist time when there was a shortage. the whole point of deferment is for the person to serve as MO. his research on meloidosis is so contrived. meloidosis is a soil bacteria ie it cannot tolerate exposure to air so it is very unlikely to be made a terror weapon. even if research has to be done , there are scores of people more qualified to do it. obviously he got super easy nsf becos of tony tan.

This is terrible, but on the other hand it marks the beginning of a new Singapore that has political consciousness... after 10, 20 or maybe 30 years people may find a better more respectful way to express their political opinions. Since by normal channels it is difficult to voice objections to government policies and oppose the dominant party of the government in Singapore without being arrested or sued, people have found social media and a rally such as this to make their voices heard.

Personally i dont think Singapore can easily overcome the financial problems, foreign workers etc. Foreign workers are brought in due to the declining population growth. Singapore doesnt have a wide talent pool. But the ironic thing is that if Singapore's population increases, the housing prices will definetely rise as well. I think problems like this need alot of time and consideration for the upcoming policies to work out well. Just my opinion.

For those who do not know, TT has a recent scandal involving his son when TT is a Defence Minister. And alot of dis satisfaction are targeted towards PAP due to many reasons and factors. Despite claiming he would be "independent", it doesn't appear to me.

#1: He left office only on June 2011 - 2 Months before the writ was issued.

#2: He has clear relationships with the top of the PAP in many ways. In GIC, ex-cabinet minister, and as a PAP member. Can you expect Tony Tan to speak against the cabinet in certain issues? He has to consider his "friendships" eh?

I commend Dr Tan for taking all that jeering in his stride, and made his speech in a dignified manner with a smile across his face. For the benefit of the doubt, let me just enlighten you with a few of those covered up corruptions going on. Just take government sector payouts for instance, there is not much transparency to that subject.

If you look closely into some organizations such as SAF, SPF, SCDF, HDB & LTA accounts summary, there are a lot of questionable loop holes within them. And all these information were being kept away from public's attention. Just my 2 cents.

So my point is really, the political landscape in Singapore is still very polite. The fact that people are more open in voicing their dissatisfaction is progress to me. Our politicians are too used to being able to do whatever they want with no negative repercussions. They're not used to negative publicity and openly negative feedback. Our culture is being eroded by influx of foreigners who don't respect our multi-racial harmony and traditions. And I disagree with the way that mediator handled this issue. So now the Chinese family must "report" to the Indian family every time they go out or get home. What a no-brainer suggestion!
