Curry Night by MrBrown

布朗先生- 咖喱之晚搅笑歌 A family, who had just moved here from China, had resorted to mediation because they could not stand the smell of curry that their Singaporean Indian neighbours would often cook. The Indian family, who were mindful of their neighbour's aversion, had already taken to closing their doors and windows whenever they cooked the dish, but this was not enough.

"They said: 'Can you please do something? Can you don't cook curry? Can you don't eat curry?'," said Madam Marcellina Giam, a Community Mediation Centre mediator. But the Indian family stood firm. In the end, Mdm Giam got the Indian family to agree to cook curry only when the Chinese family was not home. In return, they wanted their Chinese neighbours to at least give their dish a try.

I once witnessed a china man eating Indian vegetarian across Mustafa Center. I think that particular Chinese family had never been exposed to Indian culture at all until they came to Singapore. We as host, should introduce them to our rich and colorful culture instead of bashing them headless.

I don't understand the PRCs...if you are that unhappy, then, go back to your hometown. If you want to live in a land that you don't belong to in the first place, at least, try to be more tolerant and gracious...I think the Indian family is being very nice to accomodate such a ridiculous request... but well, at least we know there are gracious Singaporeans around...

Great! That family should go back to China! I love curry! Is our right to cook curry at our home. What if the Indian hates herbal tea, do they also go Community Mediation Centre and compliant if the china family cook herbal tea?

Mdm Giam is an idiot. Is she a true Singaporean? Perhaps she can go to China with those chinamen.

Very good and pertinent ... enjoy it! Thank you for posting.

As for those chinamen ... respect our Sing food or go to hell! If they don't like our curry and try to prevent us from cooking this dish in our homes, they can very well take the first slow boat back to China where they belong. Go back to your villages and dirty way of life.

I love curry

Why should we give way to those farking cheena immigrant when we spend our day one & first cry in this little red dot?

Ask them to go back to their beloved china and be a farmer! Ask them to be royal to their Mao zhu Xi Loh!

I LOVE curry!!! And I am a Malaysian Chinese! Come on, "bah kut teh" and all the herbal stuffs probably smell worse cos my husband is white and the only time he says something is when I make chinese food. LOL!

I think it's ridiculous to compromise and cook when they r nt at home. Why can't they move out then. We also can't stand the tone when they converse in the public. Can they shut up and talk only when there is no one near their proximity. If they can't shut up and we having to put the noise pollution. They hv to bear with the smell!

Don't like that leh... I hv many PRC friends that love curry too. Don't because of few (one?) cases and jump into conclusion. We are hurting the feelings of those that really adopted Singaporean life.

Our culture is being eroded by influx of foreigners who don't respect our multi-racial harmony and traditions. And I disagree with the way that mediator handled this issue. So now the Chinese family must "report" to the Indian family every time they go out or get home. What a no-brainer suggestion! And I agree with the Indian family to let their Chinese neighbour try their curry. It's the best way to allow understanding of different cultures from different races.

Likewise, when you are in Singapore, do as the Singaporeans do", or else ...

Fucking PRCs. They cook some vile shit too. I'm Malaysian Chinese I agree that if they can't take it, then piss off out of the country.

The chinamen must know that they're no more in China. This is singapore. I am a true-blue born in Singapore Singaporean Chinese. And Singapore is all about immigrant races and foodstuffs. We must eat and smell everything Singaporean, which is a fusion. If chinaman don't like it, chinaman go back home. Or they can learn to eat from the 1-true-blue mad chinaman who loves curry, cos he is a baba like me.
